Operations and Production Management

Sam’s role as a Director of Operations and as a Production Manager for, single or multi faceted performances, is to ensure the seamless operation of performance spaces, balancing technical needs with operational management, and fostering a collaborative and effective team environment.

•  Arranges for the rental of additional equipment, as needed

•  Provides sufficient technical staff for all programs held in the performance spaces of the Performing Arts Center

•  Coordinates technical budget items for Theatre Arts Lab Series

•  Prepares monthly budget reports

•  Coordinates planning meetings with both rental clients and internal users regarding usage of PAC performance, technical and support spaces

•  Maintains all policies and procedures for billing rentals for the PAC technical and performance spaces, including maintaining emergency procedures in cooperation with risk management, fire marshal, and campus saftey

•  Attends scheduling and planning meetings as needed with event support departments

•  Assists in policy development and administration

•  Works closely with the Executive Director on the selection process for contracted personnel, services, and activities in assigned areas of responsibility as required to assure that satisfactory and acceptable performance standards, specifications, material and labor costs, work schedules, etc. are maintained

•  Cultivates a high performing team which partners with all Dominican departments to work well together and is empowered to make decisions

•  Encourages a culture of openness and fairness while continuing to strive towards improved communications and team performance to fulfil goals and objectives

 

Educational Work

Regardless of a major or minor Sam firmly believes in the role of liberal arts experience and education as a necessary path to creating a more just and human world.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive production calendar

  • Trains staff and supervises all activities in the technical and front of house support spaces including the scene shop, costume shop, tech booths, dressing rooms, and storage spaces

  • Supervise load-in, load-out (strike), hang and focus, sound check, and technical rehearsal for all programs in the PAC spaces (may delegate management of simple programs to trained student staff).

  • Develop and monitor budget lines pertaining to technical labor, maintenance contracts for equipment, routine maintenance and replacement of equipment, and supplies for performance spaces and shops

  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for:

    • use of the technical support spaces and equipment in the PAC

    • safety in the technical support spaces in the PAC

  • Maintain and/or generate:

    • equipment and materials for performance, technical and applicable support spaces

    • student onboarding

    • technical drawings for performance spaces

    • maintenance schedule for technical equipment in the shops and performance spaces

 

Planning and development

In operations and production management Sam centers the necessity of transparent and efficient communication with an emphasis on supporting every production and artist to the best of her ability. She finds true fulfillment in fostering a collaborative work environment that allows for every person to thrive working towards and shared goal.

•  Develops and maintains safety standards for all students, staff, professional artists, designers, and technicians using the performance spaces and/or shops

•  Researches and oversees the purchase of specialized technical equipment

•  Ensures venues are safe and operational for use, including coordination within PAC and with campus partners to address Village and Fire code requirements

•  Develops and monitors budget lines pertaining to technical labor, maintenance contracts for equipment, routine maintenance and replacement of equipment, and supplies for performance spaces and shops

•  Prepares short- and long-term venue upgrade proposals

•  Provides leadership in strategic and organizational planning

•  Assists in policy development and administration

•  Serves as the primary liaison between campus and external clients as it pertains to schedules, events, rules and regulations, and standard operating procedures to ensure a successful operation

•  Partners with internal department heads to maintain a close and supportive relationship with an understanding of how each department contributes to a successful event

•  Provides input to long range planning for items affecting the operation of the center

•  Supervises routine and specialized capital improvement projects planning, assigning, and directing work
